Summer term

In science during summer we would have been learning about plants. I have attached some worksheets below to help the children at home get started with the topic. Identifying plants in and around your garden as well as those when you go for a walk is a great starting point. Children could take pictures, draw and sketch any flowers they find. In the following days I will be adding more work to help with this topic.

Please continue to follow the daily lessons on White Rose Maths for maths and BBC Bitesize for English.

There are daily topic lessons on BBC Bitesize too if you fancy having a go at them.

The worksheets for every day are in the files below. If you are unable to print, please don't worry, there are plenty more resources to support your learning on the BBC Bitesize page.

You could also look at the questions online and write your answers on paper.

SCHOOL CLOSURE - WB. 4.5.20 AND WB. 11.5.20

Hello everyone,

I can't believe it is May already! I have left up the work from the previous weeks as well as your 'project' work for this term. Please don't worry about doing it all, you are all doing so well and just try your best. I am so proud of you all and I miss you al! Remember if you have any questions or would like to share any work with me my email is year1@christchurch-stone.staffs.sch.uk. I could put any work on our class blog!

Just thought I would update you all on what we will be doing over the next few weeks. As a school, we have now decided to use two main resources - White Rose Maths and BBC Bitesize daily lessons. The links to both will be below.

White Rose maths obviously focuses on maths, giving daily lessons. It also has videos explaining the methods, how to work things out and the answers to the questions. This is an excellent online resource which we feel the children will enjoy completing.

BBC Bitesize gives you daily Maths and English lessons as well as regular lessons in Science, History, Geography and more.

Again, just do as much as you can. Hope you are all well and keeping safe (and are not too bored!).

See you all soon,

Mrs Doyle

Local History Summer term 1

This term in school we would also be looking at our local area and the history of our town-Stone. I have some ideas for activities for the children to complete at home- any questions please email me.

  • Talk to grandparents or older relatives about your local area, what has changed? What has stayed the same?
  • Look for old buildings on your daily walk- how old are these buildings and how do you know? What are they used for? Were they ever used for anything different? Maybe you could sketch a few of them.
  • Research using books or the internet as much as you can about Stone.
  • Draw a map of your town, include all your important places on there like your house and school.
  • Make a timeline on the history of Stone.
  • Use Google maps to find Stone- can you find your house?
  • Create a list of top facts about Stone or even a factfile!
